In Memory: Thomas Rask OD ’62
Thomas Rask OD ’62 died Oct. 15, 2018, at age 81.
After receiving his doctorate of optometry from Pacific, he served in the Air Force as a practicing optometrist before opening his own practice. He was a founding member and leader of St. Sharbel Church, in Portland. He was bestowed the Equestrian Order of Saint Sylvester by Pope Francis for his faith and devotion to the church.
He served on the Providence Hospital healthcare board, the Holy Family Catholic School board, and the St. Thomas More Catholic School board. He received special recognition for his work with Portland's chapter of the International Lion's Club, a nonprofit organization providing optometric care to underprivileged children. He volunteered at several other organizations, including the Royal Rosarian Society, the Oregon Children and Adults with Learning Disabilities, and the Perry Center for Children.
He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He will be missed for his witty humor, generosity, and deep love for his family. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Najat Hriez; sons, Thomas, Todd, Troy, Trevor, Thaddeus, and Theodore; 17 grandchildren; and siblings, Larry and Janice Rudge.
