In Memory: Caroline Locher-Stein, former Pacific instructor

Caroline Locher-Stein, former Pacific instructor, died Nov. 15, 2018, at age 75. A graduate of Reed College in Portland, Ore., she moved on to the University of Oregon to earn her master’s and doctorate of comparative literature. She was also a Fulbright Fellow at the University of Marburg in Germany. She taught German and English at Pacific before returning to Reed College, where she served as director of alumni relations for over a decade.

In retirement, she pursued her artistic passions for painting, drawing, and printmaking, which she exhibited in Portland, eastern Washington, and Italy. She was a well-traveled individual who spoke English, German, Swiss-German, French, and Italian fluently. She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Daniel and Kaspar. She is survived by her stepchildren, Cornelia and Felix; siblings, Michael (and Valerie) Horner, Judith (and Juergen) Horner, Stephen (and Susan) Horner, and Terry (and Elizabeth) Horner; two stepgrandchildren; and an extended family.
