In Memoriam: William “Bill” Young ’58
William "Bill" Young ’58 died March 12, 2021, at age 83. Raised in Beaverton, Ore., he graduated from Beaverton High School in 1955 and majored in teaching at Pacific. He worked as a teacher, owned a construction business and served as a director for the DEQ in Portland and director of Water Resources in Salem. He also was elected mayor of Beaverton in 1975. He enjoyed hunting and working with his hands. Young married Roberta Kay Troyer on Aug. 18, 1957. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Corrine Young; his wife, Roberta (Troyer) Young ’58; and his brothers, Ronald Young ’57 and Dennis Young. He is survived by his children and their spouses, David (and Christine) and Gretchen (and Randy); his brother and sister-in-law, Alfred and Janet Young; grandson Travis Hatfield; three great grandchildren; and four nieces and nephews.
