In Memoriam: Robert "Bob" Nixon ’47
Robert “Bob” Nixon ’47 died March 29, 2022, at age 96. A lifelong resident of Forest Grove, he was state archery champion in 1942 and was inducted into the Forest Grove High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2017. He also was an Eagle Scout and Troop 213 bugler. After high school, he joined the Navy and was assigned to a medical training unit at Willamette University. He finished his pre-medical training at Oregon State University and earned a DDS from the University of Oregon Dental School in 1050. A third-generation dentist, he practiced for 50 years in the Nixon Dental Building on Main Street in Forest Grove, retiring in 2000. He and his first wife, Charlotte Weeks had two daughters. In 1994, he married his college dance partner, Jean Brooks. He was a member of the Forest Grove United Church of Christ, Bethany Presbyterian Church in Portland, and the Forest Grove Rotary Noon Club and was a nationally recognized ski instructor on Mount Hood.
Nixon was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Emma; and sister, Bobbie Hatfield. He is survived by his wife, Jean; daughters Linda (and Thad) Crowe and Sue Nixon; granddaughter Libby; and extended family.
