In Memoriam: Marla (Mort) Plecha OD '01

Marla (Mort) Plecha OD '01 died on May 11, 2021 at age 48. Dr. Plecha knew at a very young age that she wanted to become an optometrist and following a brief period of working as an ophthalmic assistant at Sierra Eye Associates in Reno, she completed her degree at Pacific University School of Optometry.

Following graduation, she returned home to Reno, Nev., and became an optometrist for the VA Medical Center. Plecha succeeded in creating an accredited residency program in optometry under the auspices of the University of California. 

Plecha was preceded in death by her grandparents, Marvin and Pat; her father, Dale; and her stillborn daughter Gina. She is survived by her daughter, Delaney; her son, Stanley; her mother, Kathy; her brother, Marvin; her sisters, Lisa and Lynnaday; and her husband, Larry.
