Learn about Staff Opportunities in Shared Governance

Consider getting involved in Pacific’s shared governance as a Staff Senator or as a staff representative on a university standing committee. There are nine Staff Senate positions serving a two-year term starting this July. The five staff positions on the university standing committees are for a three-year term starting this fall. Staff Positions Available on University Standing Committees
Are you interested in collaborating with employees from across the university and learning about other areas at Pacific? Any non-faculty employee is eligible to be nominated for the staff representative position on these five committees for a three-year term starting this fall:

• University Finance Committee reviews and discusses the university’s financial operations to help facilitate communication within the university community as it pertains to employee benefits, the budget, and financial aid. Last year, the committee explored the budgeting model that Pacific uses and enrollment initiatives (both current and planned). Staff members have valuable insights and contributions that are sought out.
• University Honors and Awards Committee is responsible for recommending individuals for honorary awards to the president. If you would like to get involved in the annual recognition of employees consider serving on this committee. This position must be benefits-eligible and have been employed for a minimum of three years at Pacific.
• University Technology Committee recently worked with UIS to review security policy updates, provide feedback on data storage and username changes, and collect information and resources on generative AI use across the colleges. If you would like to learn more about technology initiatives and the interworkings of the university, consider serving on this committee. 
• Health & Safety Advisory Committee works to review, evaluate and make recommendations regarding safety and emergency planning activities on our campuses. 
• Cultural Collections Committee steward the university's cultural resources, advocate and promote the university's collections, and encourage and support the integration of cultural resources into the educational activities of the university. This position is designated to staff working on the Eugene, Hillsboro, or Woodburn campuses.

The time commitment varies by committee but is generally 2-3 hours per month. Committees generally meet monthly from September to May. Consider nominating yourself or a colleague. Email staffsenate@pacificu.edu to make a nomination by Friday, March 15, to make a nomination. Nominees for standing committees will be selected by the Staff Senate.

Staff Senate Seeking Nine New Senators
Do you know someone who is passionate about the Pacific community and enjoys connecting with others? The Staff Senate is now accepting nominations for nine positions for the 2024-26 term. 

Staff Senators have a front-row seat to learn and engage in larger decisions made at the university while also organizing professional development opportunities, social events, and communications to fellow Boxers. The monthly time commitment is 3-4 hours. Staff Senate meetings are held monthly, on the third Wednesday, from 3-5 pm. Staff are eligible to serve if they are not considered faculty or administration, are benefit-eligible (.5 FTE and up), and they have been employed at Pacific for at least one year.
