Katharine Loevy Promoted to Full Professor
Katharine Loevy has been promoted to full professor of philosophy at Pacific University.
Loevy teaches courses in the history of philosophy, the philosophy of art, the philosophy of religion, and Asian and Islamic philosophy in Pacific’s College of Arts & Sciences.
She has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and collected volumes and has presented work at more than 40 professional meetings and conferences. She was a Fulbright semi-finalist in 2021.
She also is the campus representative for Scholars At Risk. She has organized an annual Scholars At Risk Speaker Series at Pacific University since the spring of 2017, and an annual Global Humanities: Women in Philosophy speaker series since the fall of 2021.
She served as chair of the Philosophy Department from 2017 to 2021, minus a one-year sabbatical. Loevy also served on the executive committee for the History of Philosophy Society from 2017 through 2019, and currently facilitates the Critical History of Philosophy Working Group.
The non-tenure promotion in rank for faculty members is granted upon recommendation by college personnel committees and approval by the University Personnel Committee president.
