HPC2 Atrium Named for Sara Hopkins-Powell
The atrium of HPC2, the second building at Pacific University’s Hillsboro Campus, has been officially dubbed in honor of Sara Hopkins-Powell.
The Sara Hopkins-Powell Atrium is a collaborative space used by faculty, staff and students in the myriad graduate and professional programs within the College of Health Professions. And, it’s a symbolic space representing the collaborative nature of the former vice present and executive dean.
Hopkins-Powell led the Pacific University College of Health Professions during the establishment of the Health Professions Campus in Hillsboro. During her tenure, the college added the schools of Pharmacy and Dental Health Science, as well as graduate programs in Healthcare Administration and Gerontology.
Under her leadership, the college also developed its highly successful interprofessional course, in which students from all disciplines work together to learn the best practices of integrated care.
Hopkins-Powell also was instrumental in helping the college increase its international practice and humanitarian opportunities for students, and in expanding the college’s services to meet the needs of under-served communities in Washington County and the greater Portland area.
Hopkins-Powell served as vice provost and executive dean of the College of Health Professions from 2005 to 2010. In 2011, an endowed scholarship fund was established in her name, supporting student and faculty international education opportunities. The Pacific University Board of Trustees officially dedicated the atrium in her name during its meeting Dec. 1.
