First Annual Boxer Giving Day Raises $165,295 in 24 Hours for Pacific University
Pacific University alumni, students, trustees, parents, employees and friends powered the first annual 'Boxer Giving Day’ fundraising blitz to soaring heights.
From 9 a.m. May 5 through 9 a.m. May 6, Boxer Nation rose to the challenge set by the university's Office of Annual Giving for a participant goal of 515 donors. A total of 1,090 donors took part, more than doubling the goal and contributing $165,295 in just 24 hours.
The total includes more than $45,000 in matching gifts from generous supporters who made contributions when the 515 donor goal was reached.
Additionally, the College of Arts & Sciences Advisory Council pledged $15,000 for the college if 100 donors made a gift of any kind to support the arts and sciences (180 donors did so).
Alumnus and current Pacific trustee Bob Barrett ‘66 rallied support for the College of Business by committing a gift and challenging at least five others to step forward as well. When all was said and done, 31 donors joined Barrett in supporting the university's business programs to the tune of $11,330.
“The huge success of our first Boxer Giving Day reinforces the passion and love our alumni, students, employees and friends have for Pacific University,” vice president Cassie Warman said. “The great work of our volunteers was a huge factor in spreading the word and the outpouring of community support on social media contributed greatly to the momentum and success of the day. What we are most heartened by is the true expression of pride and connections that those who study and work at Pacific benefit from the day they set foot on campus."
The 2016 Boxer Giving Day is tentatively scheduled for next March. To donate now, please visit pacificu.edu/give or call 503-352-2211.
