Fiona Phetnouvong ’21: Western Society of Periodontology Award
Fiona Phetnouvong ’21 received the Western Society of Periodontology Award from the Pacific University School of Dental Hygiene Studies.
“Fiona has shown a special interest and proficiency in the field of periodontics during her educational experience,” professors wrote.
Phetnouvong worked as a dental assistant for six years before starting her bachelor’s program in dental hygiene. As a student, she served as secretary of the Pacific University student chapter of the American Dental Hygienist Association.
"I wanted to have the opportunity to be involved in one of the largest organizations that represent hygienists and advocate for my peers,” she said. “This has provided me the opportunity to learn about leadership skills, participate in conferences, and, most importantly, the relationships and connections I have gained along the way is priceless.”
Phetnouvong, of Salem, Ore., graduated from Pacific University in August 2021 with a bachelor of science in dental hygiene, or BSDH.
The School of Dental Hygiene Studies offers a two-year bachelor’s degree that prepares future dental hygienists with a particular focus on interprofessional care and public health service.
