English Students to Present at 2019 Humanities Conference

Student accepts award at 2018 NUCH

Eight English Literature and Creative Writing majors have been selected to present original research at the 2019 Northwest Undergraduate Conference in the Humanities (NUCH), including Alecia Boehlke, Kymberlin Bush, Jodelle Marx, Cal McCarthy, Margaret McFarlane, Nic Stevens, Riley Stewart, and Phoebe Whittington. The annual event is hosted by North Idaho College, and will take place on November 9 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Of the students accepted, Bush, Marx, and McCarthy have additionally been nominated for prizes for their work.

While the Department of English typically has a strong showing at regionally conferences such as NUCH and NUCL, the Northwest Undergraduate Conference on Literature, this year is a particularly robust group. Conference presentations are an essential building-block in career development for a range of careers and professions stemming from literary study, as well as prepares students for the expectations of graduate-level work.

In 2018, NUCH partnered with IJURCA: The International Journal of Undergraduate Research and Creative Inquiry to publish last years prize-winning works in literary criticism and creative writing in a special issue. Published by Pacific in collaboration with Central Washington University, IJURCA has for ten years worked to publish original research by undergraduates in collaboration with their faculty mentors.
