Dana Bates to join Athletic Training Program Faculty

The faculty and staff of the Athletic Training Program at Pacific University are excited to announce that Dana Bates, PhD, ATC, has agreed to accept a teaching position within the program beginning in the Fall of 2017.

Dr. Bates comes to Pacific University with both significant academic and clinical experience.  Most recently Dr. Bates has served as the Program Director and Clinical Education Coordinator (CEC) for the Athletic Training Program at George Fox University in Oregon where she has been since 2012.   Prior to this Dr. Bates was an instructor at Whitworth University, and the CEC at the University of Texas in Austin Texas.  From 2007 until 2010, Dr. Bates was the Program Director for the Athletic Training Program at Nebraska Wesleyan University.  In each of these experiences Dr. Bates had significant clinical responsibilities, serving as a practicing athletic trainer at each of these institutions.  As a member of the professoriate Dr. Bates has used a number of innovative approaches including incorporating technology, peer-teaching and the use of the flipped classroom approach. Dr. Bates is also active in the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and has a number of regional presentations and peer-reviewed publications.  Most recently Dr. Bates has been involved in research exploring critical thinking skills in athletic training students.  At Pacific University, Dr. Bates will primarily teach a variety of courses within the program.  She will also assist Dr. Ludwig with clinical education component.
