Center for Gender Equity Recognizes 11 Local Students
The Pacific University Center for Gender Equity and the Hillsboro and Forest Grove branch of the American Association of University Women honored 11 local high school girls in an STEM award ceremony on March 15.
STEM refers to education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. A traditional leader in science, engineering and innovation, the United States is drawing fewer youth to STEM fields, particularly young women. National leaders have set a priority of increasing the number of women in these fields, and the CGE and AAUW support the effort by recognizing girls in local high schools who excel in STEM subjects.
The following are the winners from this year's STEM awards:
Alyssa Rogers, Banks High School
Lily Garver and Emili Stack, Century High School
Annika Rusaw and Catalina Montelongo, Forest Grove High School
Amber Becker, Gaston High School
Claire Edington, Glencoe High School
Eileen Douglas and Melissa Phung, Hillsboro High School
Libby Solhe and Angelica Ocampo, Liberty High School
