Bye Bye Badger
Before the historic Boxer statue took on the title of Pacific University's mascot, there was Badger.
For decades, Pacific's athletic teams were represented by Benny the Badger, a fierce but friendly fighter. In the late 1960s, students voted to replace Benny with the Boxer, in honor of the Chinese statute long known as College Spirit.
To make the transition, some students held a funeral ceremony for the outgoing mascot.
But Benny survived, at least in one form. The Benny the Badger costume, along with his counterpart Betty the Badger, are on display today in the Old College Hall Museum.
