Boxer Love Story: Bob Casteel '54 and Barbara (Pelton) Casteel '56

After many conversations over coffee at the Tip Top, their first date was to an evening showing of “Harvey.”

Their romance was encouraged by the Speech Department and in particular by Dr. Fred Scheller, who spoke at their 50th wedding anniversary in 2004. Bob pinned Barbara in March 1953, just before leaving on a month long national speech tournament tour with three other debate/speech colleagues and A.C. “Hap” Hingston.

Bob passed away Oct. 9, 2021.
