ALAS Hosts Día de los Muertos Celebration

AltarJoin the Association of Latinx and Ally Students (ALAS) in celebrating Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) with an ofrenda/altar display in the UC from Oct. 31 to Nov. 5. Día de los Muertos is a celebration where the passageway between the living world and the spirit world is open, and the souls of loved ones may return for a visit.

Día de los Muertos is celebrated in Mexico, Central and South America and other Spanish-speaking countries. A colorful ofrenda displays photos and the favorite foods of those being honored.

Students can be part of the altar by bringing their own photos frames, art, or items from their loved ones. This event is open to the public.

ALAS is also hosting Baile de los Muertos on the UC Patio from 8 to 10 p.m. Friday Oct. 29. The dance will feature snacks, drinks and Latinx music for students and friends to enjoy.
