Al Weiss Earns Outstanding Leadership Award
Al Weiss has received the 2021 Outstanding Leadership Award at Pacific University.
Weiss is the director for the Center for Educational Technology and Curricular Innovation and an assistant professor in the University Libraries.
In his role with CETCI, Weiss was instrumental in helping faculty members make a quick and effective transition to online and hybrid teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic. He offered a summer seminar for faculty, along with countless standalone events to support faculty not only with technology but with pedagogy in a digital space.
The same innovative spirit that shone during the pandemic is a cornerstone of Weiss’s Pacific career, as he has helped faculty bring new ideas to reality through creativity, patience and passion for teaching.
“He is not a ‘tech for tech’s sake’ guy,” says one colleague. “Instead, he helps think through the best solution to the problem at hand.”
“With Al and the staff he has put together, and the support they offer, I am using technology in ways I never imaged just a few years ago. And my students are getting a better learning experience,” says another colleague.
The Outstanding Leadership Award recognizes employees who promote a participative environment, encourage their staff to reach goals, and act upon employee input. Recipients are role models for others and foster a collegial environment.
