About the exhibit

Over the past 10 years, the Brazilian Public Health Care System

has transformed its mental health practices from an almost

exclusive emphasis on institutional care to a policy that has

created a network of out-of-the-hospital, territory-based care.

The positive effects of these changes can be seen not only in the

health field, but in the changing public perceptions of mental

illness.

These stunning photographs are an attempt to portray this

process of transformation in the lives of everyday people.
