Types of Student Practicum Placements
- First year field placement: 14 hours per week, totaling 420 hours during the academic year
- Second year field placement, Health & Wellness Track: 16 hours per week, totaling 480 hours during the academic year.
Your agency much have a health and wellness focus in order to qualify for this track. - Second year field placement, Latino Track: 16 hours per week, totaling 480 hours during the academic year.
Your agency must focus on working with Latino populations in order to qualify for this track.
Become a Field Instructor
We welcome and invite new field instructors to participate in one of the most important roles in the education of our BSW and MSW students. Field instructors facilitate student acquisition of social work competencies, values, knowledge, and skills. By working with the next generation of social workers, field instructors inform and shape the practice and future of the profession. Their supervision, guidance, and mentoring are key to enhancing the success and development of highly effective and competent social work practitioners. People who choose to serve as field instructors not only give back to the profession they love, but also develop supervisory skills and remain current in their practice.
Qualifications for Field Instructors
• Hold an MSW degree
• Have two or more years of post-MSW experience
• Provide students with at least one hour of supervision per week
• Attend field instructor orientations and trainings
