Pacific is a member of the Northwest Forensics Conference, representing colleges and universities in Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Utah and California. Pacific’s award-winning forensics team attends eight to ten tournaments a year to compete with other colleges and universities in speech events. Since 2000, Pacific’s Forensics team has finished in the top three for season sweepstakes in our division every year, and in 2006-2007 took first place.
Open to all Pacific University students, the Forensics team invites you to become part of this winning tradition.

INVOLVEMENT
No experience is necessary to be involved in forensics. Some members of Pacific’s team have extensive high school training, but a large number of students come only with the desire to improve their speaking skills. The team travels regionally, nationally, and internationally. Events include individual events in oral interpretation of literature and public address.
BENEFITS
- Participating in forensics helps to develop skills in critical thinking, research methods, organization, language usage, listening, and public speaking.
- Forensics also helps with career preparation. All professions demand skills in language – writing, thinking, reading, speaking, and listening.
- Finally, forensics is fun. Through forensics you will develop friendships with students from Pacific and other colleges and universities. Through teamwork and cooperation, the team succeeds and team members enjoy their experiences with speech and debate.
TRAVEL
Students on the forensics team attend tournaments in the Pacific Northwest, with one or two tournaments a year beyond the Northwest. The team attends a national or international tournament every year. The national tournament is hosted by colleges and universities in different regions of the country. Returning students on the team are eligible to attend an international forensics tournament. Recent trips include: Argentina, Mexico, London, Texas, Mississippi, California, Florida, Illinois, and Washington, D. C. The university allocates funds to forensics to pay for tournament entry fees, food, hotel, transportation, and supplies. Forensics is not a costly activity for students. |
