Create in your mind an image of Oregon during its infancy in the mid-1800s. The majestic Cascade range, the Willamette River valley, vast farmland and thousands of lakes which welcomed those who desired to make Oregon their home. These dedicated and hard-working individuals understood that an educated citizenry was imperative to serving future generations of this great state.
Our forbearers claimed the mission of providing an outstanding educational environment right here in the West Tualatin Plains, in what is now known as Forest Grove. Originally begun as an orphanage for children who lost their parents on the Oregon Trail, Tualatin Academy was chartered in 1849, to educate the settlers and eventually grow into a college. And thus, Pacific University, had at its very conception the mandate to educate and enlighten the masses at a distinctive institution: a community of learners dedicated to improving our world.
Each year the Alumni Association requests nominations for individuals who represent the best and brightest of Pacific University alumni. From this group awardees are selected for the Outstanding Alumni Service Award and the Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award. These selections are based on professional distinction and service to Pacific University and the greater world community.
Pacific University has more than 15,000 alumni, each with the skills and training to make a difference in our world. We want to expand our recognition to included distinction within each of our graduate and professional programs, including: the College of Optometry, the College of Education, the College of Health Professions which includes the Schools of Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant Studies, Professional Psychology, Dental Health Sciences, and Pharmacy. Additionally, we want to share stories about our outstanding alumni, who through their service, professional achievements and community service should be recognized in future issues of Pacific magazine and on our web site’s profiles page.
