Pacific Recognized for 'Transfer Friendliness'

PTK Honor Society Transfer Honor Roll 2023Pacific University has been named one of the best in the country for transfer students for the third year running.

Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society named 208 colleges and universities to its 2023 Transfer Honor Roll in recognition of the dynamic pathways they have created to support community college transfer students.

Pacific is the only Oregon private university to earn the “Transfer Friendliness Rating.”

The Transfer Honor Roll is determined by 40 key metrics related to the support and success of transfer students, including college cost and financial aid, campus life for transfer students, admission practices, and bachelor’s degree completion.

“The goal of most students attending community college is a bachelor’s degree, but few do because of financial barriers and the complexities of the transfer process,” said Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner, president and CEO of Phi Theta Kappa, an honor society recognizing the academic achievement of students at associate degree-granting colleges. “We are proud to recognize the exceptional colleges and universities that go above and beyond to create accessible pathways to bachelor’s degree completion for community college transfer students.”

At Pacific, transfer students may choose to pursue their bachelor’s degree through the university’s comprehensive undergraduate program in Forest Grove, including academic offerings in the arts and sciences, business and education.

Students in these programs are eligible for merit- and need-based scholarships. They receive pre-transfer advising support to help plan their pathway to a bachelor’s degree, as well as ongoing transfer-specific support services. And they benefit from the small class sizes, personal attention and hands-on learning opportunities that are a hallmark of a Pacific experience.

Pacific also offers other academic pathways for transfer students with specific professional goals in mind, including:

  • A Bachelor of Education program, designed specifically for community college grads who want to become teachers while studying and working in their home communities in Oregon;
  • A Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene Studies, a two-year program at Pacific’s Hillsboro Campus that prepares students to become dental hygienists; and
  • A fully online Bachelor of Health Sciences degree-completion program that prepares students to advance their careers or seek graduate study in healthcare fields.
