Pacific Hall Update | Week of July 17

The construction team at Pacific Hall remains focused on demo, excavation, and preparation for the shear wall work at level 1, as well as HVAC demo and other miscellaneous demo. Be prepared for significant construction noise as concrete work takes place through month of August. This work represents the crux of the seismic upgrade.

In the next few weeks crews will begin to brace walls, windows, and interior framing. The pace of construction will quicken significantly over the remainder of the summer and into the fall.

Looking forward to the fall, the noise level should generally diminish as work transitions to the build out of interior spaces. The campus’s patience and understanding with the heightened noise levels over the past month and a half is greatly appreciated.

Seismic Upgrade

Saw cutting, demo, and excavation at the level 1 shear wall locations and in the corridor west of the main stair for the new L1 restrooms is scheduled for completion on Friday, July 21. Vacuum trucks that produce a high level of noise have been on-site daily throughout the course of the week. Geotechnical inspectors were on-site Monday, July 17, and will return Thursday, July 20, to inspect subgrade conditions.

The level 2, zone 1 shear walls will immediately follow this work, with forming in the latter half of the week of Aug. 7 and into the week of Aug. 14, and Shotcrete scheduled for Aug. 17 and 18. Please be advised that the Shotcrete work will produce a high level of noise. Zone 2 shear walls on both levels will immediately follow this work in the second half of the month of August.

Anchor installation and framing of the brace walls at existing brick walls will begin Tuesday, Aug. 1, and proceed over the course of the first three weeks of August.

Windows

Preparation of openings for window installation is to commence Wednesday, July 19.
