Pacific Hall Construction Update | Week of June 26

At a high-level, the construction team is still proceeding with demolition and abatement, with excavation for the shear walls and window removal getting more fully underway. There will continue to be a significant noise level from saw cutting, excavation equipment, generators, and general demolition noise associated with this work over the next two to three weeks, as well as the presence of trucks and construction vehicles entering and exiting the site via the west fire lane gate.

PMG Abatement Contractors finished abatement of flooring and ceilings on the first floor on Tuesday, June 27.

Minority AC finished removal of the existing windows on level 1 last week and have rotated upstairs this week to remove windows on level 2. This scope of work should be completed by Friday, June 30. Walsh Construction has been following behind them as they progress to board the window rough openings as they are removed. All window rough openings will remain boarded until new windows are installed after the completion of the Shotcrete shear walls.

The new fiberglass windows were delivered to the site this week and the windows will be staged in the laydown area on the west lawn until the time of install.

Last Friday, June 23, Walsh and their concrete subcontractor performed a Shotcrete panel test to verify the design of the Shotcrete shear walls, concrete mix design, and means of construction, and to certify the nozzlemen who will eventually perform the work on-site. They completed three test panels, each performed by a different nozzelman. Cores from these panels will be taken and analyzed by the special inspector to verify proper consolidation of the Shotcrete mix around the reinforcement.

Preparation of the subgrade and footing bar for the level 1 shear walls is scheduled to begin next week after the July 4 holiday. Once complete, forming and placement of the shear walls will take place over the course of the next 3 weeks. Pouring of the grade beam is scheduled on Friday, July 21.

Dixon Demolition continues to complete saw cutting, demolition, and excavation of the existing slab and subgrade material at the level 1 shear wall locations this week. After beginning in the art gallery, they have rotated to the south and southwest shear wall locations in the CLIC. On level 2, Dixon continues to complete interior demolition work with a target completion date of Friday, June 30. Demolition of the brick flue at level 2 and on the roof will take place next week.

American Heating will be on-site next week to demo existing HVAC ductwork and equipment that is no longer in use or will be replaced.

Prep work, loading and haul-away of demo material, and transportation of construction equipment and materials on and off the site continues at the west lawn laydown area.

Move Transition & Storage

No change from last week. Furniture and equipment continues to be stored in containers at the west lawn laydown yard. This has provided significant relief in terms of workspace and risk of damage to furniture and equipment for the ongoing work. Storage needs and efforts to relocate remaining furniture and equipment in the building will continue to be assessed as work progresses.
