Apply Now for Civic Education Funding Opportunity

The Tom McCall Center for Civic Engagement is encouraging faculty and staff to consider applying for funding for civic engagement activities through the Oregon State Capitol Foundation Civic Education Initiative. This funding pool sounds perfect for classes, programs, clubs or student groups and is a relatively simple application process. The MCCE is available to coordinate and support proposals from Pacific to maximize our chances of success.

Please notify the MCCE (email Stephanie Stokamer at stok@pacificu.edu) by Sept. 18, if you would like to submit a proposal so we can support your proposal development and ensure that we are coordinating efforts.

Types of projects that might get funded:

  • Lobby days/field trips to the Oregon State Capitol for a class or major
  • Capstones or other student projects involving Oregon’s history, state/local government, or public policy
  • Classroom or extracurricular activities related to civic education
  • Researching / sharing stories of Oregonians in civic life

It is okay to think big — grants in the thousands of dollars are possible (the organization is allocating $80k to this effort in fiscal year 2023-2024 alone).

Types of support available from the MCCE to implement project ideas:

  • Help arranging transportation or other logistics
  • Assistance setting up experiential learning or civic engagement credit for student work
  • Assistance connecting with community sites or government offices
  • Coordination with other proposals/funded projects
