Tai Chi for Health Founder Paul Lam Launches Memoir in US at Pacific University on Wednesday

Paul Lam, medical doctor and founder of the Tai Chi for Health Institute, will hold the US launch of his memoir, Born Strong: Surviving the Great Famine to Teach Tai Chi to Millions, at Pacific University's Forest Grove Campus on Wednesday, June 10 at 6 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room of the University Center (Washburne Hall).

The event, free and open to the public, is in conjunction with the organization's 30th annual Tai Chi Workshop being held at the university June 8-13.

When he was only 10 months old, Dr. Lam was left in China with his grandmother to fulfill the ancient Chinese tradition that required a male heir to see their parent off to the next life. The Communist Party of Mao Zedong would soon take over China and close it off to the world. For 16 years Dr. Lam suffered abuse and starvation from the oppressive Communist rule, kept alive by his beloved aunt. Life changed suddenly and dramatically when his father found a way for him to escape China, so he had to bid farewell to the only life he knew and the one person who loved him unconditionally.

After a brief time in Hong Kong, Lam traveled to Australia wIth the help of a brother who lived there, and experienced freedom for the first time in his life. Determined to bring honor to his family as  well as to himself, he studied medicine and became a family practitioner.

Lam suffered many effects from the years of starvation and malnutrition in his childhood. He began studying tai chi and was moved by the art and the movements that began to improve his health and spirit. He became an expert in tai chi, and feeling he could help others through the practice, he started workshops to teach those who wanted to learn. He also instructed others how to teach the methods he had developed. From workshops to lectures to creating DVDs to writing books, Lam has dedicated his life to spreading the health benefits of tai chi around the world. He has changed the lives of millions of people who seek to connect their mind, body, and spirit through tai chi, fulfilling his destiny to become a true healer.

Born Strong is a story of survival, persistence, and love. Lam's 320-page memoir is available at bookstores and on amazon.com.

Lam is available through Sunday, June 14, for interview and photos. Please contact Linda Scott from eFrog Press at 760-579-3447 or efrogpress@gmail.com, to schedule a time to meet with him.
