Juan Young Trust Grants Support Scholarship, New EyeVan

The Juan Young Trust has continued its longtime support of Pacific University with two recent grants.

The first grant, in the amount of $4,500, continues a scholarship program established by the trust in 2001. The scholarship is available to Oregon high school students, with preference given to those who are descendants of former Kienow’s Food Store employees.

A second grant, in the amount of $9,000, will support the Pacific University College of Optometry in purchasing a new Pacific EyeVan to provide mobile optometric care for underserved patients throughout Oregon.

Optometry students, under the direction of licensed doctors of optometry, provide on-site vision screening and care to underserved populations throughout Oregon, with a focus on care for children ages 3 to 7.

The new EyeVan will upgrade the mobile care unit from an aging delivery van to a modified recreational vehicle. It will allow the College of Optometry to expand the type of care provided, as well as the areas served. The Juan Young Trust joins other philanthropic support for the new EyeVan.

The Juan Young Trust is a nonprofit organization promoting the health, education and welfare of children in Oregon. It was established through the will of Juan Young, a longtime employee, officer and stockholder of Kienow’s Food Stores.
