Class of 2014 Member Earns Fulbright Scholarship

Catherine (Catie) Prechtel of Talent, Ore., has received a 2014-2015 Fulbright U.S. Student Award to Mexico, where she will teach English.

She graduated from Pacific University on May 17 summa cum laude with a double-major in Spanish and anthropology.

She has been active in the Center for Gender Equity and Department of World Languages' work to help the women of Adelante Mujeres with life skills, including writing and public speaking. 

The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program of the United States.

Prechtel will represent the country as a cultural ambassador, helping to enhance mutual understanding between Americans and the people in Mexico. She will join more than 100,000 Fulbright U.S. Student Program alumni who have undertaken grants since the program began in 1948.
