Bruno Gegenhuber '16 Selected for Fulbright US Student Award to Germany
Bruno Gegenhuber '16, a senior majoring in biology from Roseburg, has been selected to receive a 2016-2017 Fulbright US Student Award to Germany.
Gegenhuber will work with the Neurobiology of Alcoholism team at the University of Erlangen to research the relationship between prenatal sex hormone exposure and adult alcoholism.
Using both a clinical and cell culture approach, the team will target the role of μ-opioid receptor 1 during the research, which may help scientists better understand the mechanisms of addiction pathogenesis, and could subsequently lead to new treatment strategies against alcoholism.
Gegenhuber is a seven-time Dean's List honoree at Pacific who is minoring in creative writing. He has served as an assistant editor of the university's Silk Road Review literary magazine, and in 2014, received a prestigious scholarship from the Oregon NASA Space Consortium.
