Earn a bachelor’s degree in environmental science and a doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) degree in just six years with the Environmental Science 3:3 Pathway — two years faster than a traditional bachelor’s and PharmD program.

The 3:3 pathway program is designed to allow students to earn a bachelor’s in environmental science (with an emphasis on toxicology and chemistry) and a doctorate in pharmacy in just a total of 6 years.  After their 3 years as undergraduate students, environmental students will be able to start the Pharmacy program and transfer their completed P1 pharmacy year back into their undergraduate program, granting them a bachelor’s degree, while they continue on with P2 and P3 years for Pacific’s three-year doctor of pharmacy program.

Much of the coursework in the environmental chemistry and toxicology program, offered through the College of Arts & Sciences, focuses on toxicology and pharmacology, principles highly important to the pharmaceutical sciences and pharmacy practice. Undergraduate students may apply to the 3:3 pathway program after completing the first year of the environmental chemistry and toxicology program.

For eligible undergraduate students, the 3:3 program aims to nurture career interests, provide enriching, pre-professional development opportunities and pave the way for success in receiving both bachelor of science and PharmD degrees through an established mentorship program.

As undergraduates, students work on an independent research project with faculty members from Pacific’s School of Pharmacy. They deliver a formal public presentation overview of their research work in the School of Pharmacy to complete the College of Arts & Sciences senior capstone requirement.

Undergraduate students also take some toxicology and chemistry courses that are team-taught by both faculty members from the School of Pharmacy and the environmental toxicology and chemistry program.

The 3:3 program prepares students for careers as pharmacists in community, ambulatory care, health system, and specialty settings and for careers in drug research and development, pharmacology and toxicology.
